How to apply for the Disability Grant

1. Get your documents ready

• Medical records and reports about your condition
• Proof of income and assets
• Marital status documents, if they apply

2. Follow these steps

1. 1Go to SASSA first to get a medical assessment referral.
2. 2Attend your medical assessment with the SASSA-appointed doctor. The report must be less than 3 months old when you apply.
3. 3Tell the officer which grant you are applying for and hand over your documents.
4. 4Complete the forms with the SASSA officer. Ask them to explain anything you do not understand.
5. 5Choose how you want to be paid. If using a bank account, it must be in your own name.
6. 6Keep the receipt with your reference number. Approval can take up to three months.
