How to apply for the Foster Child Grant

1. Get your documents ready

• Your ID
• The child's birth certificate
• The Children's Court order placing the child with you
• Your social worker's name and contact details

2. Follow these steps

1. 1Make sure your court order is valid and not expiring soon.
2. 2Tell the officer which grant you are applying for and hand over your documents.
3. 3Complete the forms with the SASSA officer. Ask them to explain anything you do not understand.
4. 4Choose how you want to be paid. If using a bank account, it must be in your own name.
5. 5Keep the receipt with your reference number. Approval can take up to three months.
