Foster Child Grant

Who this grant is for

Foster parents of a child under 18 (sometimes up to 21 if still in school) placed with them by a Children's Court order.

Main requirements (check with SASSA)

• Foster parent and child live in South Africa
• A valid court order placing the child in your care
• No means test applies to this grant

What to bring

• Your ID and the child's birth certificate
• The court order
• The social worker's details

Good to know

Court orders must be extended before they expire, or payment may stop. Stay in contact with your social worker.

How much is it?

R1 290 per month from April 2026, according to the official 2026/27 announcement. The amount you receive can be lower after the means test. Amounts can change – check SASSA before relying on them.
